Dov Seidman goes "On the Record...Online" with host Eric Schwartzman to discuss why how you do business is more important than the bsuiness you do in today's hyper-connect world.

Dov Seidman is the author of the new book “How” which explains why “how” we do anything means everything in business. He created his highly successful company LRN from the living room of his apartment which has now grown to include some high profiled clientele such as Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Trump Entertainment, and more than 250 others. LRN’s objective is to help companies share their corporate cultures and build strong, principled organizations that are successful in the marketplace. Seidman is very busy giving presentations about the importance of being both profitable principled to likes of The National Press Club, the Outstanding Directors Exchange, the Defense Industry Initiative’s Best Practice Forum, Council of State Governments, and the Corporate Board Member Magazine Boardroom Summit to name a few. Seidman’s view on business behavior has also been quoted in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Forbes, CNBC, ABC’s Good Morning America, and BBC News. Seidman obtained a philosophy degree from UCLA, a politics and economics degree at Oxford, and studied law at Harvard Law School.

Dov Seidman is demonstrating exactly what he explained so well in "How". Sites like www.glassdoor.com reflect comments from his own employees, speaking of the culture in his own company, and his own teams failure to create a climate of trust and empowerment. It is, of course, ironic. I am a huge fan of his books and thinking, and recommend "How" in all my workshops. I think he is completely correct that the transparent world of the net has created a need for much better management. Now he has to stop talking about it, and go and make it happen in his own company, because his credibility is very publicly on the line.

Eric, I really enjoyed hearing this interview. I subscribe to your podcast but often don't get to listen to it in the weekly rush. I'm glad I made an exception this week. Much of what Dov had to say was commonsense, but you rightly pointed out that much of that commonsense - or sense of right and wrong - is treated as a kind of childlike naivete that we outgrow when we get into the "serious" business world. The messages in "How" echo some of the themes that marketing academics are discovering in a set of concepts called Service-Dominant logic.
